Drew and Angela Malone have been married for twenty two years and have 3 amazing children, Lauren 18, Dylan, 12, and Adam 11.  Adam was diagnosed with Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy (DMD) when he had just celebrated his 2nd birthday.  Instead of giving up and grieving, we got busy.  We found Pat Furlong with www.parentprojectmd.org, and learned everything we could about DMD.  We did our homework and found specialists in the field of muscular dystrophy at Cincinnati Children’s Hospital in Cincinnati, OH.

Knowing that giving Adam the best medical care just wasn’t enough, we decided we needed to find a way to get the community involved and to give back.  We founded Adam’s Project, with the first “project” or goal to be to build a fully accessible playground in our hometown of Ridgeland, MS.  This playground will be unique in that it will allow children of all abilities to play alongside each other without having the look of being a handicapped facility.  In addition, parents who may have disabilities will have full access to all areas of the park and will be able to fully participate in play with their children.

Our vision for the park as our first project, is not only to give something tangible to the community, but to raise awareness of our son’s illness.  By educating the public, our aim is to use Adam’s Project as a catalyst for a cure, raising dollars for research and finding ways to improve the quality of life for those suffering from this horrible disease.

Adams Project is a 501(c)(3) approved charity
